Club History & Amenities

Highfield is a small family country club committed to perpetuating the values and purposes envisioned by its founders. The Club maintains a variety of recreational facilities in a magnificent but understated physical environment. It continues to encourage and cherish family activity and expects old-fashioned civility among members at all times. Highfield continues its tradition as essentially a club for its members and, as such serves as a haven from business activity.

Highfield was founded in 1953 by a group of families dedicated to the concept of a family club. A number of the original founders, as well as their children and grandchildren, remain as members. At the same time, Highfield has welcomed from the community those families and individuals who share the same values and objectives of the existing members.

We are truly fortunate at Highfield to have a beautiful setting in a campus of over 600 acres. This has enabled us to offer a variety of recreational pursuits in a very private setting. The club offers:

Highfield Club Amenities
There is something for everyone at Highfield Country Club. A year round calendar of social events, tournaments and championship events are geared to please every age group from kids to seniors. There is always something happening at the Club.

Golf
A full-time Golf Professional is available for private or group instructions. Highfield offers a full-service pro-shop, bag storage, golf carts, pull carts, practice putting green and driving range. Highfield offers a nine-hole course with multiple tee boxes that play to a par 72 over 6,600 yards when played from the Championship tees. The course has a slope of 136 and a rating of 72.8. The Ladies' tees offer a challenging 5,700 yards par 73 with a slope of 127 and a rating of 73.7.

Paddle Tennis
Highfield has two lit and heated, aluminum-decked, paddle tennis courts playable year-around.

Pickleball
Members enjoy pickleball on two lit and heated, aluminum-decked, paddle tennis courts.

Swimming Pool
The Highfield pool is a summer social hub offering families a great spot for family swimming and picnics. Our pool is a safe, family environment that your whole family will enjoy. The pool is heated for the comfort of its members and their guests. There are convenient changing areas and bathrooms for all using the pool.

Playground
The playground offers children a safe place to play. Located adjacent to the pool area, the playground offers a shady play environment with swings, sandbox, and other playscape pieces.

Cliffside
A private wooded area on Lake Quassapaug, offers members a small sandy beach, bathhouse, swim raft, kayak storage, lake access for boats, picnic and cookout facilities.

Clubhouse
Famed architect Theodate Pope Riddle designed the Highfield Club House, the former Dr. Edgar Stillman estate. Club House functions include indoor and outdoor lunch, dinner, and snack bar service May - October. During the winter months, members enjoy candlelight dinner service. The Club House is available to all members for weddings and private parties.

Tea House
The Highfield's quant Tea House is nestled near the pool and playground and also available for private events. It is a favorite spot for hosting summer birthday parties.

Summer Day Camp
The Summer Camp at Highfield is a seven day-a-week day camp open to all children ages 5 to 12 years old. Camp counselors and our golf and tennis pros offer instructional and competitive golf, tennis, swimming, as well as a variety of nature and craft activities for all campers.

Bridge
Bridge is an active group, offering a friendly game for all levels of play.
